Free TV mobile app
Samsung TV Plus is a free TV app for Samsung mobile device users. This multimedia app is a non-subscription and ad-supported TV streaming service that gives viewers access to news, entertainment, and sports TV channels. It offers hundreds of hours of movies and TV shows from 135 channels. However, the app is limited to Samsung devices only. Moreover, it only works on variants of Galaxy S10, Note 10, S20, and Note 20.
TV, movies, and more
Samsung already launched its streaming service to its TV devices. Just like the big screen, the mobile app offers hundreds of hours of free TV shows and movies from 135 channels. You can keep your fingers on the pulse with breaking news and 24/7 coverages from major news networks, such as CBSN. Moreover, you can binge-watch a wide arrange of TV shows—from guilty pleasures to thrilling throwbacks. Parents will be happy to know that there are nine channels dedicated to children.
Additionally, users will also get to access Samsung’s own operated channel, The Movie Hub, which provides blockbuster movies. What you'd need to take note of, however, is that Samsung TV Plus is not like the popular online streaming apps like Netflix and Hulu. It is a TV app, which means you cannot watch any content by simply searching for a particular title. Like a classic television, the shows air at specific times and there are commercial breaks. Moreover, you will need to browse through the channels to search for the ones you want to watch.
To make your experience easier, the app allows you to create a list of your favorite channels. With this, you can easily get to them whenever your favorite show is on air. Additionally, you can also set a watch reminder so that you won’t miss a show. You can even save a watch list of some of the shows and watch them on-demand. Many of the titles for this feature are older or niche—such as Thelma and Louise and Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares—but they may do the trick if you are unsure of what to watch.
Not for everybody
Samsung TV Plus is a great way to watch TV on your mobile device. With this, users will get to access hundreds of channels without shelling out money for a subscription. However, as noted, this app is not for everybody. For one, you have to be a Samsung device user to be able to use this service. Moreover, Samsung is limiting the app to certain variants of Samsung models. Affordable and lower-spec phones do not qualify.
In addition, the service is only available in 11 countries, including the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Thailand, and Korea. The channels you can access depends on the region where you live. If your region isn’t included in the list, you won’t be able to use this service.
With various videos-on-demand services available for mobile devices, Samsung TV Plus provides a nostalgic experience. The app has a good selection of channels and a lot of classic TV shows, which is good for those who miss flipping through channels before deciding what to watch. However, as it is, the service is very limited in a way that not everybody can enjoy its offering. Moreover, those who can access the app will also experience usability issues, such as choppy broadcasts and a few crashes.
